Artisan Story Pendants

Each of these pendants was inspired by events, landscapes, the garden and other things, thus a story of how they came into being.
This beautiful jewellery is made using a technique that is very labour intensive and intricate. No soldering or glue is used, just hair fine strands of silver or gold coiled onto a framework. Each part of the design is carefully chosen and attached with a hair fine strand of wire. Each piece of jewellery is individual in its design and cannot be repeated exactly the same, so each one is unique.
Lakeside Kingfisher
A few years back we had a friend who sold Japanese Koi among other fish his garden was huge with pools waterfalls and he built a small lake at the far end where the fish fry could grow big and there were lots of frogs and newts, one day we went visiting and he told us had been losing fish in the lake to a Heron then it disappeared but in its place a pair of Kingfishers had arrived we went up to take a look they were sitting on a branch over the far side of the lake watching the water, they would spot a fish and wings closed like scintillating jewels they hit the water like bullets, then in a flash of gorgeous colour they were up and out on their branch. We watched for ages and although John hoped they would leave he couldn't help being fascinated by their dexterity and beauty. So this is the lake complete with waterfall, Kingfisher, rushes and butterflies etc on a glorious English summer day (yes we do actually get glorious summer days sometimes!)
I made a silver coiled frame and added my hand made leaves and Kingfisher. The rushes are Moss Agate and Hessonite Garnet, the lake is a lovely piece of Aquamarine, the butterflies and waterfall are Swarovski crystal. The blue poppy is hand carved turquoise. In the background, I added some pearls and prehnite, hanging from the loop at the bottom of the pendant is a large, exquisite faceted drop of blue Topaz.

The Old Pear Tree
As a child, our house in London had a large garden in the center of which, standing upon a mound was an old pear tree, its branches almost brushing the grass beneath its ancient trunk. I remember the pears had a wonderful pinkish tinge and were sweet to eat when ripe. Unfortunately, it attracted many wasps and my father decided it would have to go.
My pear tree has a trunk and branches of silver with tiny hand made leaves. The little pink pears are Tourmaline and I have left one white blossom, although as everyone knows, the blossoms would all be gone. Behind the tree are large nuggets of Citrine as there were always golden yellow flowers in the garden. Beneath the tree, the grass is tiny gemstone Peridot nuggets. A silver wheelbarrow has been carelessly left on its side while a little ladybird sits in the grass. A bee has come to rest on the topmost branch. There are no wasps around my tree, forever immortalised in my pendant.

Falling Leaves
Inspired by the many kinds of autumn leaves falling on the earth to restart the cycle of rebirth. Leaves are tigereye and Jasper. The silver leaves and flowers are hand made by the Karen Hill Tribe. The weaving on the right hand side of the pendant represents some falling Larch pine needles. I added lots of tiny berries in jasper and goldstone for just that little added sparkle and because I love these tiny beads. Dew drops of silver beads small as the head of a pin, from the Karen Hill tribes I can't imagine how they can make these by hand!!!! If you look hard at the bottom of the pendant, a tiny mouse has crept out from under the leaves to feast on fallen berries.

Crocuses silver art pendant

Crocuses
I was inspired by the lovely colours in a bed of crocus to make this delightful assemblage. The framework is coiled silver wire. I used four large faceted nuggets of citrine and added many, many small gemstone pieces of citrine, amethyst and peridot. Entwined in the gemstones are nuggets of silver, a flower and a silver Hilltribe butterfly and dragonfly have alighted to enjoy the splendor. Each element is attached with a very fine silver wire. Streams of gemstones linked with silver cascade from this captivating hand crafted pendant. I will attach a chain to your custom length.

A matching pair of earrings are available in a waterfall of the same gemstones, each seperately hand attached with care and swing gracefully from a pair of silver leverbacks. Enquiries welcome, please email.

Mossy Garden
On a framework of silver, I coiled hair fine silver wire. I added a lovely strand of Peridot gemstone chips, this made some nice moss for my Jasper flower, two tiny tubes of Carnelian made the stem, the leaves are Goldstone. I weaved the fence from fine silver wire and finished it off with a mossy top, tiny silver beads, smaller than a pin head and also a few bigger ones are twined around the moss like beads of dew. The little silver leaf hanging from the loop is hand made Karen Hill Tribe silver.
This can be a pendant or a brooch!

Haru Gasumi
This commission was inspired by the very first camellia to bloom in the late winter early spring in my garden, Haru Gasumi, a pale pink pointed, small, scented blossom, very dainty and Japanese looking. It is a willowy thing and would be fabulous draped over a small wall. The very first blooms had appeared just before the snow and it always gives me so much hope that spring will not be long; I just love to see it bloom. Another day I was looking out of the study windows when I spied in the garden next door, a perfect posy of yellow Primroses, quite solitary on the brown earth. The new leaves are such a tender green right now. My gem pallet was Rose Quartz for Haru Gasumi and buds, Moss Agate for stems and Jasper for the evergreen leaves. Primroses are carved Citrine, the tiny leaves are Tourmaline and the drop is pale green Prehnite. The centre panel is satiny nugget pearls between faceted Prehnite rondelles.
Rapparee
The inspiration for this challenging commision beach pendant was a local cove.
I used blue topaz faceted rondelles for the sea and sky, hessanite garnet was the sand, with natural raw red garnet making some nice rocks, aquamarine is my rock pool, with moss agate seaweed, a pearl is a bright sun and a sweet crab and seashells in silver. I love the shape of this pendant.

Winter
I took inspiration from the huge silver Rutilated Quartz round, the rutiles are so many that it reminded me of snow, quite appropriate I thought. Leaves were next and a problem as I wanted to use gemstone as well as silver, I had searched for some previously but nothing seemed right. Then I found the amazing Tourminalated Quartz carved leaves tucked into the box with my other Rutilated Quartz. I chose a long teardrop shape for the frame to represent the loss of the flowers and insects that are sleeping but also knowing how joyful we are when they awaken in the spring, so we have the silver flowers and leaves asleep beneath the snow. Another inspiration struck, our study is high up on the third floor and in the angle of wall and window I have been watching an intrepid spider build her web, she repairs it many times, from wind and rain and is such an industrious little creature I sometimes feel quite ashamed of my inability to get things done so well. Part of her web has been forever translated into fine silver wire with drops of Topaz and an icy crystal butterfly whose wings reflect the wintry sun, another small butterfly rests by a leaf and a tiny blue one the color of Topaz sits above the Quartz.
